Winchester Fun Facts

* Winchester was founded as a town in 1793. The site for the town came down to a tie between John Baker's Spring and Strode Station owned by John Strode. Mr. Strode had to cast the deciding vote, and he voted for John Baker's Spring, stating that he "didn't want his boys growin' up around town as they might become triflin' and no account". He also did not want to be considered selfish or acting in his own interest.

* Street cars once traveled Main Street to Moundale Avenue where the car was pushed around the roundtable to make its return journey. At the end of the day, the driver would go into a store to call the electric company to turn off the street car.

* Winchester has one of only two elevated sidewalks in the state of Kentucky. The area is known as High on Main.
